[#131] Where does it hurt?

Bullet 131

Issue 131, Part Time CEO Newsletter

Hey, it's Dhiren 👋,

A couple of weeks ago, I booked a massage. Not because I wanted one.

But because my shoulders were killing me.

The therapist didn’t ask what oil I preferred or walk me through her technique.

In fact, her English was so broken, all she managed to say was:

“Where hurt?”

Direct. Effective. No fluff.

Ten minutes in, I felt like I could breathe again.

And that’s when it hit me…

This is exactly what our customers want from us.

They’re not buying our offer. They’re buying a ticket out of pain.

A shortcut to pleasure.

And they’ll do it again. And again. And again.

That’s the pain–pleasure cycle.
If you don’t get it, you’re not selling solutions.
You’re just listing features—while someone else sells relief.

🧠 Bullet One: People pay to end pain—not to buy your thing

We love to pitch our “process.”

But your client doesn’t care about your 6 steps or your slick template.

They care about what hurts. And how fast you’ll make it stop.

They’re paying to:

• Stop the overwhelm

• Stop losing leads

• Stop looking amateur

Or to:

• Start looking legit

• Start scaling

• Start sleeping better at night

Lead with that, or lose them to someone who does.

🧠 Bullet Two: Pleasure is temporary. Pain always comes back.

Here’s the truth: pain never disappears. Not in business. Not in life.

That’s not a problem—it’s the business model.

Because when pain returns, so does demand.

Every time your customer hits a new wall, the cycle restarts:

1. Pain shows up

2. They seek help

3. They pay

4. They get relief

5. Time passes

6. New pain arrives

If your business is built right, you’re not a one-time fix. You’re the trusted guide they turn to again and again.

Your Turn

You’re not in the business of selling deliverables. You’re in the business of transformation—from pain to possibility.

What’s the 3AM pain your customer can’t stop thinking about?

And how can you be the only person they trust to fix it?

📌 Dhiren’s Pick of the Week

🎬 Film: Substance (2024) starring Demi Moore

⚠️ Heads up—this one’s dark.

But it’s exactly why it fits.

Substance is a haunting look at our obsession with perfection and the lengths people will go to escape pain. Demi Moore plays an aging actress promised a treatment that will make her whole again—but at a cost that cuts deep.

It’s eerie, satirical, and unforgettable.

And it’s a powerful reminder: people don’t want your product.

They want a new version of themselves.

Much Love,

Dhiren Bhatia
